More recommendations

More recommendations for casein. You are able to take advantage of the rapid drying time with the ease to make changes ,the thick and thine applications, multimedia techniques and the matte finish of this water-soluble paint.  Unlike watercolor and gouache, casein can be applied thin washes or thick brush strokes, and can be modified with casein emulsion. The finished painting can be left unvarnished or sealed with a varnish.  As with any other paint their are certain steps that need to be taken to ensure the best results with casein, those steps include working on a rigid gesso prepared surface and recognizing that the painting takes several days to dry completely.  I follow similar procedures for casein as I do with oil and using the same array of warm and cool color palette of E mile Gruppe.

More Casein

Rushing Water 8X10 Casein

I follow similar procedures for oil painting as I do for casein, one of the oldest artist medium older than oil.  Using the same array of warm and cool color and a plan based on the pattern of light and dark that develops my composition, so it really dose not matter which one I choose.  That said, as with any other paint their are certain steps that need to be taken to ensure the best results with casein, those steps include working on a acid free rigid surface and recognizing that the paint takes several days to dry completely.

Why Casein Now?

So why casein now and not oil?  I think maybe I've come full circle, back way back in art school  (Ringling School Of Art) before oil paints.we were introductions to gouache and casein as the medium for our class projects and assignments for the first year.  The next three years fine art students used mostly oil, graphic artist stayed with gouache and casein as a rule,
When I worked as a illustrator gouache was always a go to medium. For the past 20 years I  have worked en plain air with oil or pastel, in recent years I rediscovered casein paint and the advantages it has over oil paints. Easy clean up, fast drying, coast and reworking.
Here are some website with more on casein and artist ...

Unlike  gouache, casein can be applied either in thin washes or thick brushstrokes,  As with any other paint, there are certain things that will ensure the best results with casein, such as working on a rigid surface, masonite coated with acrylic gesso and completely dry for several days.
